Fort Leonard Wood is located right in the middle of Missouri Ozarks. The military base is about 90 miles east of Springfield Missouri, and just about 140 miles west of St. Louis Mo. on Interstate 44.
Flying in and out of Ft. Leonard Wood
There are 4 airports near ft. Leonard Wood; each located within a 2 to a 2½ hour drive of the base, including a small airport located directly on the ft. Leonard Wood military base.
Most people flying into Missouri to visit Ft. Leonard Wood fly into St. Louis Airport. There is however a small airport located right on the base.

The Waynesville-St. Robert Regional Airport provides commercial airline service provided by CapeAir. The airport, located on Fort Leonard Wood, offers 4-5 daily roundtrip flights between Fort Leonard Wood and St. Louis. The airport also offers a car rental service directly in the terminal. Ft. Leonard Wood - Alternate Travel Methods
Amtrak service is available in Missouri; however, the closest train depot is about 131 miles from Fort Leonard Wood. It is perhaps possible to take Amtrak in conjunction with Greyhound to get to the army base.
There is a Greyhound stop in St. Roberts Missouri which borders the military base. The bus station is located at 718 Missouri Ave in St Robert Missouri.

Book Hotels Early!
There are a handful of hotels actually located on the base, and several hotels located near the base. The Hotels off-post in St. Robert are usually full a month or two in advance, due to the fact that FLW is a basic training base, and there are lots of families coming in for boot camp graduation, AIT Graduation and family days. If you can't get into an IHG hotel that's located ON BASE, then you want to book a hotel in St. Robert.
If you can't book a hotel in St. Robert, your next choice is going to be Rolla Mo. It's easier to find hotels in nearby Rolla, which is located about 20 to 25 minutes away from the base.
